My three children love to be able to hide away in their own little imaginary world with dens and tents. So, when I received the Nautical Themed Magical Teepee from Just for Tiny People, I couldn’t wait to get it out of the box.
I have to admit that I was a bit worried about having to set up a teepee – I am not very practical – but it was already on the poles with the ribbons tied up, so within minutes, it was proudly standing in the playroom.
It didn’t take long for Nathaniel, my three year old to dash inside with his dinosaurs, although he refused to let me tie back the curtains because he didn’t want to share his special place with his younger brother.
Finally, I managed to persuade him that there was plenty of room for two, which there was and they played brilliantly together for ages without any squabbling, allowing me to enjoy the moment with a cup of tea.
There was a lot of dinosaur play that day and those dinosaurs had some great adventures in the teepee.
As well as dinosaurs, Nathaniel loves jigsaws but he gets annoyed when Alex tries to ‘help’ him with making them. So this time, he did use the teepee as his little place away from it all to enjoy a bit of Nathaniel-only activity.
Later that day, the sun was out and it was starting to feel like Spring so, after picking up Hannah from school, we all dashed into the garden to make the most of it. After a while of running and cycling, they were getting a bit hot and tired, so I moved the teepee outside (which was so easy as it just folds down and opens up again in seconds) and threw a blanket inside for a comfy base.
Hannah and Nathaniel abandoned their bikes and scooters, preferring to play ‘Mums and Babies’ in the teepee instead. They were soon so engrossed in their role-playing that it was only the call of “Dinner” that dragged them out. I felt quite guilty for stopping their fun but I will take the teepee in the garden again as soon as the sun is out.
Unfortunately, there has not been any sun since, but by using some cushions and a blanket, the teepee was transformed into a quiet reading corner.
Nathaniel was so quiet in there, that I thought he had fallen asleep. I popped my head in and saw a three year old boy all snuggled in pretending to be asleep. Moments like these make me go all gooey inside.
Using cushions on the floor gave me the great idea to put in our road mat as a base. Nathaniel seemed to agree that it was a good idea and he quickly moved his cars in for some traffic play, which I think involved quite a few collisions.
Over the last week, we have thoroughly enjoyed the teepee and I can see it being used every day for a long time as it is great for so many activities – role-playing with friends or siblings, a quiet reading corner, building magical worlds with figures, a calm place to relax in, an outdoor house and so many more. In fact, as many as a child’s imagination will allow, which is endless.
The Just for Tiny People Teepees are handmade, the quality is fantastic and it folds away when not being used. I know that it will last for years and my children will never really grow out of it so there will be lots more magical adventures and activities to come.
